  Dr. Amir D. Assili

Dr. Amir D. Assili is a graduate of Temple University Hospital where he received his graduate training in podiatric medicine. After graduation, Dr. Assili served as a chief resident in primary podiatric medicine at Temple University Hospital in Northern Philadelphia. He was then selected as one of two residents to attend the foot and ankle surgical reconstruction residency at Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC) where he also served as chief resident in his final year. GBMC offered extensive training in foot and ankle reconstruction including diabetic limb salvage, ankle arthroscopy, Charcot reconstruction sports medicine and surgery. Dr. Assili moved back to the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area in 2002 and helped to develop Shady Grove Podiatry with Dr. Ronald Footer. Shady Grove Podiatry now serves as one of the premier practices in the Montgomery County area for the treatment of all foot and ankle related injuries. Furthermore, Dr. Assili helped to establish the Shady Grove Adventist Hospital Wound Care Center and now serves as the co-director.

Despite his extensive surgical background, Dr. Assili prides himself on being able to treat a large portion of his patient population with conservative measures, and he truly believes that all conservative measures must be exhausted prior to the consideration for surgical intervention. Dr. Assili currently serves as chief of podiatric surgery at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital and was also the only podiatrist to receive the R.I.S.E.S award at Shady Grove Hospital, which is given to surgeons who exemplify the hospital’s values of respect, integrity, service, excellence, and stewardship.

Dr. Assili continues to attend advanced orthopedic and podiatric surgical courses to bring the most recent innovations to his practice including being an FDA clinical trial investigator for advanced modalities. He is considered an expert in the field of diabetic limb salvage and lectures extensively on this subject. Dr. Assili is a Board Certified Surgeon and a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeon.



  Dr. Ronald A. Footer

Dr Footer is a native of the Washington DC area, growing up in Rockville and attending the University Of Maryland. He received his Podiatric medical education from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio, graduating cum laude. He completed his Podiatric surgical training at the California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco, California.

Dr. Footer has been in private practice in Gaithersburg, Maryland since 1975. He is a member of the Maryland Podiatric Medical Administration and the American Podiatric Medical Association. Dr. Footer is certified in foot and ankle surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery, and additionally holds Fellowships in the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgery, and the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine. He is an examiner for the American Board of Podiatric Surgery, and has served as a Mentor for the Maryland State Board of Podiatric Medical Examiners.

Dr. Footer has been a member of the medical/surgical staff of Shady Grove Adventist Hospital since its opening, a past chairman of the Podiatry section at SGAH, and currently serves on the surgical review committee and is a member of the medical executive committee.

Dr. Footer resides with his wife Vicki in the Rockville area. He is a sports enthusiast, enjoying golf, skiing, scuba diving, and aerobic exercise. Together, the Footers have four sons, their wives, and at last count, four grand children.

Dr. Footer and his partner, Dr. Assili, formed Shady Grove Podiatry, LLC in 2002 to provide the best that Podiatric medicine and surgery can offer. Together, they are sure that this goal has been, and always will be met.



  Dr. David Baek

Dr. Baek earned his graduate degree from Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University (IL), where he graduated in the top 10% of his class. During his graduate training, he was awarded numerous scholarships and a competitive externship based on his academic achievement and research. After graduation, Dr. Baek was invited to complete a three year residency at INOVA Fairfax Hospital (VA) that focused on cutting-edge medical and surgical practices for both the foot and ankle. As chief resident, he received advanced training in diabetic limb salvage and wound reconstruction through the plastic surgery department of Georgetown University Hospital. For the past five years, he has been part of a private practice in Prince George’s and Howard County, MD, where he was the chief of podiatric surgery at Laurel Regional Hospital and an integral member of the Laurel Hospital Wound Care Center.

Dr. Baek’s training and practice have given him a unique understanding of lower extremity wound care and the treatment of high-risk diabetic foot wounds. He has published and lectured on specialized topics within this field. As an avid runner, swimmer, and golfer, Dr. Baek also greatly values the sports medicine aspect of his practice. To stay at the forefront of best practices and emerging medical technology, Dr. Baek regularly seeks out hands-on seminars that ensure such opportunities.

Dr. Baek is a board certified surgeon by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery, a fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, and a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association. He is also fluently bi-lingual in Korean.

Dr. Baek is thrilled to join the team of professionals at Shady Grove Podiatry. He looks forward to exceeding expectations by providing the highest level of medical care to meet each of his patient’s individual needs.
